We are Daniel Matthies and Daniela Omegna — partners in life, in family, and in gastronomy.
What has always connected us is our shared roots and our love for food. When we arrived in Copenhagen in 2018, we felt a strong desire to reconnect with the flavors that represent us — those of North America, Central America, and South America. Cuisines that are deeply diverse, yet naturally connected, changing from place to place through small details, ingredients, and traditions.
Mexican cuisine has always been a special passion for us. What fascinates us most is its identity — a cuisine shaped by regions, history, textures, spices, and endless variations. From north to south, every place tells a different story, and that richness is what we wanted to explore and share.
That vision led us to create Sonora in 2021: a Mexican kitchen inspired by the diversity of Mexico itself. Sonora is about flavor, balance, tradition, and creativity — a respectful interpretation of Mexican food, expressed through its many regional influences.
Behind Sonora is SMOF ApS, the first company we created and the foundation of everything we do. SMOF is a kitchen collective, a space where different culinary concepts live together, each representing a part of the Americas. Within Smof, we also developed Patagonia Grill, another expression of our roots and our culinary journey.

Our goal is to keep growing in Denmark, sharing more of the flavors, cultures, and identities that define us — always honoring where we come from, while letting those traditions evolve.
This is our story. And we’re excited for what’s next.
